If you're unsure where to start, these basic survival skills might be helpful. These skills include building shelters, lighting a fire and protecting yourself against predators. You can even learn how you can preserve your meat. Hopefully, this article will give you some great ideas to begin practicing! Be aware that every situation is unique, so some preparation can go a long way. Listed below are some examples of skills you may find useful.

Start a fire

Learning how to make a fire is one of the most vital survival skills. You may find yourself in a survival situation in which you must build a fire, but if you have the proper equipment and know how to handle it, you can start a fire without any difficulty. To light tinder or clear water, you can use friction.

Building a shelter

Safety is assured by basic survival skills, such as building a shelter. You can easily become ill from pneumonia or hypothermia if you don't have shelter. Protect yourself from predators

Predators can come in many forms. While you may not be able to see them, they can be very dangerous. You can avoid predators from approaching you by blending in with the surrounding environment. Also, it is best to avoid making loud sounds. However, loud noises can make other animals afraid. Basic survival skills are a good way to avoid predators.

Meat preservation

A basic survival skill is to preserve meat. There are several methods that can help you preserve meat. The goal is to stop moisture from coming in direct contact with the meat. The longer meat can be stored, the better its shelf life. Here are some examples. Always store meat at room temperature if possible. Otherwise, it will spoil sooner. Cooling the meat will slow the bacterial duplication process. The meat's shelf life will be increased by lowering its temperature.

Navigation

Navigation is one of your most essential survival skills. Knowing where you're going will greatly increase your chances of survival. Navigating requires that you pay attention to the directions of the sun. In the Northern Hemisphere, the sun rises in the East and sets in the West. Natural clues such a landmark or the position of a sun can also help you to find your way.

How To

How to preserve food for survival

It is best to dry food when it is in urgent need. Drying food preserves it from moisture, making them last longer. It also reduces the possibility of bacteria growth.

Because dried fruits don't require much preparation, they are great for snacking in an emergency. You can take them with you and eat as many as you wish without worrying about weight gain.

Although you can dry fruits at home with a dehydrator or oven, a solar oven is a better option. To dry any type of food, you could use a sun oven, such as meats, fish, vegetables and grains.

Food preservation is best done by making sure it is airtight. This stops oxygen from entering the container, which can cause food to spoil. Preservatives are not necessary if the container is tightly sealed.

If you do decide to add preservatives, try adding salt first. Salt prevents mold growth. Next, you should add vinegar. Vinegar kills bad bacteria and stops mold growth.

To get started, you'll need to cut up your food into small pieces. Either a pair of scissors or a sharp knife are acceptable. Be sure to pack everything securely so no air can get inside.

Place the food into a plastic bag. Place the food inside a plastic bag. Keep it warm until it dries fully.

After the food is dried, seal it in a container. Take care not to let any food touch it.
